Harold Welch was born in Leicester and enlisted at Glasgow. He initially served in the Royal Field Artillery. Serving with the 1st Battalion Royal Highlanders (Black Watch), he was killed in action on 3 September 1916. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
