Albert Robert George Fanstone was born at Reading, Berkshire, on 31 March 1880, and joined the Royal Navy as Carpenter’s Crew on 26 February 1901. In January 1913 he signed a Royal Australian Navy Agreement for 3 years and served as a Joiner, and later Shipwright, at Melbourne, Australia, from 18 January 1913. He signed a second agreement for 5 years from 1 January 1916, and served continuously in Australia until September 1920 when he returned to the U.K. He received his L.S. & G.C. medal in June 1922 and was ‘shore pensioned’ on 16 March 1923.
