6th Bengal Light Infantry. An extremely scarce Field Officer’s 1880 pattern forage cap, the body of rifle green cloth, this with broad black oak-leaf pattern band, gold bullion badge being a strung bugle horn over ‘6’, thin gold orris cord around the top edge, drooping leather peak with inlaid gold lace; the crown with black cloth knop and lace decoration, original leather sweat band and crimson silk quilted lining, 1880-c1897, one small stain to the crown, otherwise in very good condition £300-450

Note. Formed from the 43rd Light Infantry in 1861, took the extra title ‘Jat’ in 1897 and became the 6th Jat Light Infantry in 1903.
