Harold Walter Keemar was born in Shoreham, Sussex in September 1900 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in September 1916, his first seagoing appointment being in the cruiser H.M.S. Duke of Edinburgh from September 1917 until April 1918. Having then ended the War with an appointment in Gibraltar, he served in the battleship Barham in the late 1920s and sometime thereafter transferred to the Royal Fleet Reserve.

Recalled on the renewal of hostilities, he served in the cruiser Despatch in the early part of the War, winning a mention in despatches (London Gazette 11 June 1942, refers), and was awarded his I.S.M. for services as a postman in Brighton (London Gazette 21 October 1960, refers).

Sold with original M.I.D. and I.S.M. certificates, together with two silver cups, both named to the recipient and awarded in 1927, one for H.M.S. Barham, and three prize medals, all named, two in silver, one in bronze, and all cased.
