Abyssinia 1867 (500 J. Davis, 1st Battn. 4th the K.O.R. Regt.); Afghanistan 1878-80, no clasp (686 Pte. J. Davis 81st Foot); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (12th Bde. 686 Pte. J. Davis, 81st Regt.), mounted as worn from a contemporary wearing bar, the first with repaired suspension, contact marks and edge bruising, nearly very fine or better (3) £500-600

John David, who was born in Jersey, enlisted in the 4th King’s Own Regiment at Westminster in February 1859. Embarked for the East Indies in October 1860, he was present with his regiment in the Abyssinia operations of 1867-68, prior to transferring to the 81st Foot in May of the latter year. Subsequently engaged with the 81st in the Second Afghan War, he was eventually discharged in November 1886 after 27 years with the Colours.
