Three: Private D. Davies, Welsh Regiment

1914-15 Star (16539 Pte., Welsh R.); British War and Victory Medals (16539 Pte., Welsh R.) good very fine (3) £70-90

David Davies enlisted into the Welsh Regiment at Cardiff on 9 October 1914. Posted to the 9th Battalion he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 19 July 1915. Admitted to hospital in France suffering from Appendicitis in February 1916, he was invalided to England aboard the hospital ship Brighton on 12 March 1916. After and operation and treatment at the 2nd Eastern General Hospital and convalescence at home in Cwmavon, Port Talbot, he was placed on Class W, later Class P Reserve, before being discharged due to his continued disability on 20 July 1917. Sold with copied service papers, m.i.c. and photocopied photograph. One such paper on which was asked the question whether his disability was caused or aggravated by military service, was answered, ‘Yes [through] Eating bully beef and biscuits and standing in water up to my waist [and] sleeping in wet clothes ...’
