A fine silver mounted Victorian officer’s presentation sword of the Droitwich & Hanbury Company, Worcestershire Rifle Volunteers, the slightly curved 83cm blade back-edged and spear-pointed, etched with crowned VR cypher above a strung light infantry bugle, a shako and crossed rifle, etc., all within finely etched foliate patterns and wreaths, the presentation inscription appears within a central panel ‘Presented to Captn. Blick by the Non-Commissioned Officers & Privates of the Droitwich & Hanbury Company of the 18th. W.R.V. Jany. 1866’, the very fine quality hilt mounts, although not hallmarked would appear to be of solid silver, the guard, pierced and chased with ornate scrolls and ribbons a crowned VR cypher and light infantry bugle, all amid flowerheads and foliate patterns, the back-strap and pommel cast and chased with sprays of oak and laurel leaves and a classical helmet, fish-skin covered grip bound with silver wire, complete with its silver plated steel scabbard with two hanging rings, blade retaining almost all its original finish and overall in fine condition £1000-1200

John Blick born January 5th. 1831 at Doddeswell, near Droitwich, son of John and Elizabeth Blick, first commissioned as Lieutenant in June 1860 in 18th. Worcestershire Rifle Volunteer Corps. formed at Droitwich, a Major by 1876 he appears to have retired in 1881, he resided at Hill Court, Droitwich.
