Edward Walter Hughes was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant in the Indian Army Reserve of Officers on 26 May 1916. On 26 June 1916 he was appointed to the 87th Punjabis and was promoted to Lieutenant on 26 May 1917. As a Volunteer he was awarded the Volunteer Force Long Service Medal by I.A.O. 789 of December 1928. In civilian life he was the Manager of the Chaupara Division, Imperial Tea Company Ltd., at Chaupara, Jalpaiguri. With copied research.
