Gilbert Arthur Holdaway was employed as the General Manager of the Daily Gazette Press in Karachi. He was also Senior Grand Deacon in the Grand Lodge of All Scottish Freemasonry in India. During the Great War he served as Company Sergeant-Major in No.4 E.E. Company, Indian Defence Force. Serving in the Volunteers, he was awarded the Volunteer Force Long Service Medal, as a Sergeant in the Karachi Auxiliary Force, published in I.A.O. 556 of August 1929. In 1938 he was awarded the Efficiency Medal (India), as a Sergeant in No. 2 (Karachi) Company, Machine Gun Corps, listed in I.A.O. 536 of June 1938. With copied research.
