W. J. Pickering was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the 44th Field Battery, R.C.A., on 1 May 1932 and was advanced to Lieutenant on 8 August 1936. As a Captain in the R.C.A.P.C. he was awarded the Efficiency Decoration (Canada) (Canada Gazette 19 May 1945), and in the same rank and corps was awarded the Canadian Decoration, ref. Canadian A.O. 18 February 1963. With some copied research.
