He was later appointed a provisional and supernumerary Lieutenant in the Canadian Army Service Corps on 19 January 1916. Serving in Canada he was discharged at Regina on 30 October 1918. The next day he enlisted in the C.E.F. and served in Canada until discharged in June 1919. After the Great War he continued to serve in the Militia. He enlisted at Toronto in October 1922 and served until discharged in August 1939, being then a Lieutenant-Colonel.
