Cecil Lerrier Giffard was born on 22 February 1868. Commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant into the 3rd Royal Guernsey Militia on 14 January 1888, he transferred to the Northamptonshire Regiment on 21 December 1889, becoming Lieutenant in October 1892. He was killed at Camp Maidan on 6 November 1897, during the Tirah campaign, ‘shot dead while sitting at dinner about 7 p.m.’, a casualty of the shooting into camp at night by the enemy. A memorial tablet was erected by his mother at St Sampson’s Church,, Guernsey, Channel Islands. Sold with further details including a photograph of his memorial with his sword suspensded below.
