Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 5 clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, S.A. 1901, S.A. 1902 (5298 Serjt., Highland L.I.) last two clasps loose as issued, small correction to surname and ‘16th M.I.’ added after regiment; 1914 Star, with clasp (5298 R.S. Mjr., 2/High. L.I.); British War and Victory Medals (Captain, 2nd Battn. High. L.I.) rank and regiment added unofficially; Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 1st issue (5298 S.Mjr., H.L.I.) contact wear, otherwise nearly very fine (5) £120-140

Thomas William Findlay was born in May 1876, and joined the 1st Battalion, Highland Light Infantry, in 1894. He served in South Africa with the 16th Battalion, Mounted Infantry, and was promoted Colour-Sergeant in 1904. In August 1908 he was the senior N.C.O. of the King’s Guard at Ballater, and was appointed Regimental Sergeant-Major of the 2nd Battalion in March 1912, in which year he also received the Long Service Medal. He received his first commission in October 1914, became Captain in January 1917, and retired in May 1921.
