Crimea 1854-56, 4 clasps, Alma, Balaklava, Inkermann, Sebastopol (42nd Royal Highlanders) regimentally engraved naming; Indian Mutiny 1857-59, 1 clasp, Lucknow (42nd Rl. Highlanders); Army L.S. & G.C., V.R., small letter reverse (2134., 42nd Foot); Turkish Crimea, Sardinian issue (2134, 42nd Royal Highlanders) all fitted with contemporary silver ribbon buckles, dark toned, good very fine and very rare (4) £500-600

George Glen was born in the Parish of Westchurch, Edinburgh, and enlisted for the 42nd at Edinburgh on 8 November 1842, aged 18 years. He served in the Crimea and is shown on the Musters as ‘Staff Orderly’ and consequently would have been detached from regimental duty as an orderly to an officer on the Staff. Clearly he was present in that capacity at the battle of Inkermann, in which the 42nd took no part. His discharge papers confirm that he received the Crimean Medal and 4 clasps. He was discharged on 28 October 1863, and was one of the Crimean War Heroes specially photographed for Queen Victoria.
