British War Medal (2.Lieut. R. S. Crawford) extremely fine £30-40

Second Lieutenant Robert Stobo Crawford was killed in action France and Flanders17 May 1915 whilst serving with the 2nd battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. He is buried at Guards Cemetery, Windy Corner, Cuinchy.

His name and picture appear in
The Bond of Sacrifice, Vol II, the following is an extract from this book. ‘On the outbreak of the war he was gazetted Second Lieutenant and was attached to the 2nd battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. At the beginning of December 1914 he left for the front, and was in most of the severe engagements. On the first day of the Battle of Neuve Chapelle a bullet passed through the sleeve of his jacket, and on the second day he had to take command of his company, the Captain having been wounded...’
