Cape of Good Hope, Government Promissory Note, One Hundred Pounds, 1 March 1832, no. 40, ‘This Note Will be received in Exchange for Bills on His Majesty’s Treasury in England on the same terms as British Silver Money’, stamped CANCELLED on right side (Pick –). Split and rejoined at centre, trimmed top edge, a few edge nicks and a 10mm tear on right edge, strong good fine, extremely rare £1,500-2,000

In July 1831 the Cape Government replaced their existing rix dollar paper currency with a new issue in pounds sterling. Denominations were £1, £5, £10, £20, £50 and £100. By 1852 only £800 of this issue was still outstanding
