An extremely rare Silver Allied Subjects’ Medal in a contemporary mounted group of three

Allied Subjects’ Medal, Silver, unnamed as issued; Roumania, Order of the Star, 1st type, 4th class breast badge, silver-gilt and enamels; Serbia, Order of Takovo, Officer’s breast badge with swords, silver-gilt and enamels, mounted as worn, the last two with some enamel chips but generally very fine, the first good very fine and very rare (3) £600-800

A total of only 134 Allied Subjects’ Medals were awarded in silver, with a further 574 being awarded in bronze. The medal was instituted in 1920 as a reward to those who had rendered services to the Alied cause, especially for helping British prisoners of war to escape. By comparison, the equivalent medal awarded after WW2, the King’s Medal for Courage, was awarded to 3200 recipients.
