A superb Old Contemptibles M.C. group of eight awarded to Captain R. Cox, Royal Army Medical Corps, a veteran of the Sudan campaign, mentioned in despatches and awarded the M.C. for services in 1914 as Sergeant-Major

(8991 Q.M. Sjt., R.A.M.C.); Khedive’s Sudan 1896-1908, 1 clasp, Khartoum (8991 Corpl., R.A.M.C.) the clasp a contemporary tailor’s copy, original mounting as worn, generally very fine or better and an attractive group (8) £600-700

M.C. London Gazette 1 January 1915. The first gazettting for the newly instituted Military Cross. No citations were published but clearly all of these awards were for services in 1914.

Quarter Master and Captain R. Cox served in France and Belgium from August 1914 to February 1915, and from November 1916 to November 1917. He was commissioned as Quarter Master and Hon. Lieutenant on 21 February 1915.
