1939-45 Star; Air Crew Europe Star; War Medal, with named condolence slip and in card box of issue addressed to Mrs F. M. Paxton, extremely fine (3) £120-140

P/O (Navigator) Archibald Hugh George Paxton was killed in action on 30 March 1943, and is buried in Kiel War Cemetery, Germany. Sold with extract from ‘Bomber Squadrons of the R.A.F.’ showing that the squadron took part in raids on the German battleship Turpitz, and when bombing Essen 10/11 April 1942, was the first to drop an 8000 lb bomb. It was also in the famous raid on Peenemunde in August 1943. From August 1942 to April 1943, the squadron was commanded by Wing Commander G. L. Cheshire, V.C., D.S.O., D.F.C.
