Ronald Ernest Bird served in the Electrical branch of the Royal Navy, and was attached to H.M.S. Asbury from August 1943. He was promoted Lieut-Commander (L) on 2 March 1948, and the following year was attached to H.M.S. Collingwood, Training Establishment for Electrical Ratings near Portsmouth. During the Korean War he served aboard the Cruiser H.M.S. Newcastle. His subsequent appointments were H.M.S. President, from November 1953, H.M.S. Ranpura, Malta naval base repair ship, from January 1956, and with the Admiralty, attached to the Staff of the Director of Naval Weapons, Underwater Weapons Division, from July 1963. He retired sometime between 1964 and 1969.
