Arthur Edward Batterton enlisted into the Cameron Highlanders in 1931 at the age of 18, transferring to the Army Reserve in October 1938 after seeing active service in Palestine. He was recalled to the Colours in 1939, serving firstly at the Depot, followed by posting’s to the Liverpool Scottish and the Infantry Training Centre, Fort George. Batterton was granted an Emergency Commission as Lieutenant on 5 April 1941 being advanced to Captain in April 1943, transferred to the Royal Army Education Corps on 28 November 1945 with whom he served until 1960 attaining the rank of Major.
