Matthew Henry Dooley was born in Bradford, Yorkshire, circa April 1872, and enlisted into the Royal Highlanders at Bradford in July 1895. He was slightly wounded at the battle of Magersfontein on 11 December 1899, was promoted to Sergeant in April 1900, and purchased his discharge in September 1903. Sold with copy service papers which confirm his wound and both medals and clasps.
