Colonel Thomas Tulloch served in the Crimea 1854-55, with the 42nd Regiment, including the battles of Alma and Balaklava (where he commanded the regiment), and siege of Sebastopol (Medal and clasps, 5th Class of the Medjidie). Colonel Tulloch is depicted in the famous oil painting “Forward the 42nd”, leading the regiment into battle at the Alma. He received his Crimea medal from Queen Victoria at the great presentation ceremony at Horse Guards Parade on 18th May 1855.
