A fine early Indian Campaign group of five awarded to Major-General Robert Unwin, Bengal Army
Ghuznee Cabul 1842, unnamed as issued, fitted with replacement silver bar suspension; Maharajpoor Star 1843 (Ensign, 16th Regt. Grenadier) with original brass hook suspension; Sutlej 1845-46, reverse Moodkee 1845, 2 clasps, Ferozeshuhur, Sobraon (Lieut., 16th Regt. N.I.); Punjab 1848-49, no clasp (Lieut., Offg. Intr. & Qr. Mr. 29th Bengal N.I.); Indian Mutiny 1857-58, 2 clasps, Relief of Lucknow, Lucknow (Capt. Offg. Sub-Asst. Comy. Genl.) fitted with a variety of silver ribbon buckles, some light contact wear but generally very fine and better (5) £2500-3000

Robert Unwin was born on 2 December 1820, and baptized at St Marylebone, Middlesex, on 19 March 1821. He was nominated as a Cadet for the Bengal Infantry, examined, and passed on 22 July 1840. He served with Major-General Nott’s Force from Candahar to Cabul, 1842, and was present at the taking of Ghuznee (Medal); at the Battle of Maharajpoor, 29th December 1843 (Bronze Star); served throughout the Sutlej Campaign, 1845-46, and was present at the Battles of Moodkee, Ferozeshuhur and Sobraon (Medal with 2 clasps); served during the Punjab Campaign, 1848-49, against the rebels in Jullundur (Medal); served with the left wing H.M’s 82nd Regiment at the Relief of the Garrison of Lucknow, 25th September 1857; at the Capture of Lucknow, March 1858; the action at Allygunge; and the Capture of Bareilly in May 1858, where he was subsequently appointed Cantonment Joint Magistrate (Medal with 2 clasps). He retired in 1874 with the rank of Major-General and died on 12 October 1903.
