Walter Thomas Delamain was born on 7 July 1902, son of Lieutenant General Sir W. S. Delamain, K.C.B., K.C.M.G., D.S.O., Indian Army. He was educated at Rugby and entered the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, as a Gentleman Cadet in 1919, being appointed 2nd Lieutenant in August 1922. He served during the Second World War in North Africa, Italy, and Burma, and in Palestine after September 1945. He retired in January 1948.
