Trumpeter John Sutherland, born Halifax, enlisted Sunderland, was taken prisoner at the fall of Kut-el-Amara in April 1916, and died whilst a prisoner of war in Turkey on 9 August 1916. He is buried in Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery, Iraq.
