George Carver was born in August 1841 in the parish of Cropwill Butler, near Bingham, Nottinghamshire, and attested for the Royal Artillery at Nottingham in August 1859. He received the L.S. & G.C. medal in November 1878, and was discharged at Woolwich in October 1880, having completed 21 years 49 days service.
