Alfred John Lamb was a native of Boughton, near Maidstone, Kent, and attested for the Royal Artillery at Rochester in November 1888. He served in South Africa as a Bombardier with the 7th Divisional Ammunition Column and with B Section, 1 Depot R.F.A. He returned to the U.K. in November 1901 and was discharged the following month.
