Julian Claude de Kenne Bruce-Kingsmill was born on 11 May 1866, and became Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in September 1885. He served in the Hazara campaign of 1888, and retired as a Captain in September 1903. In December 1914 he was appointed Temporary Lieutenant Colonel, 1 Wessex Brigade, R.F.A.-T.F., and went with them to India in 1915. He is also entitled to the British War and Victory Medals and I.G.S. for Afghanistan N.W.F. 1919.
