William Dallison was born in April 1849 at Acton, Middlesex, and attested at Westminster Police Court for 12 years with the Royal Artillery, in March 1867. After serving in Canada 1868-1873, he subsequently served with the Royal Cardigan Artillery Militia at Aberystwyth, becoming R.Q.M. Sergeant shortly before he was discharged there in October 1893.
