James Baldwin was born in 1822 in the parish of St Warburgh’s, Derby, and enlisted in January 1841. He was present at the taking of the City of Ching Kiang Foo and on the Yang-tse-kiang. He was discharged in September 1845, on payment of £35, having served for 4 years 264 days.
