Co Down, Newry, Newry Bank, One Pound, 11 August 1805, no. 3756, for John Moore, Robert Macan, Andrew Carlile & Hugh Moore, signed by Robert Macan, inked lines across part of note including bank title and the last two partners. Lightly mounted along top edge on backing paper, a few small holes and splits and missing strip on top edge, otherwise very good to about fine €600-800

The bank was established by 1805 in opposition to the Newry Bank of Isaac Corry, formerly chancellor of the Irish Parliament and who had voted for its abolition. Sir John Moore (1761-1809), who was fatally injured at the battle of Corunna, was a member of that parliament and had been an opponent of the Act of Union. The bank failed in 1816
