Queen’s South Africa 1899-1902, 2 clasps, Cape Colony, Laing’s Nek (Major F. H. A. Des Voeux, 6/Drgn. Gds.) nearly extremely fine £250-300

Frederick Arthur Henry Des Voeux was born on 1 March 1857, the son of Sir Charles Champagne Des Voeux, 6th Baronet. He entered the 6th Dragoon Guards (Carabiniers) as a 2nd Lieutenant on 16 February 1878. With the regiment he served in the Afghanistan War, 1879-80 being ‘with the Khyber Division, Cabul Field Force, expedition into the Lughman Valley, and against the Waziri Khugianis, attack on and destruction of the villages of Nargozi, Arab Khel, and Jokan’. For his services he was awarded the Afghanistan Medal. As a Major in the 6th Dragoon Guards he served in the Second Boer War, 1899-1902, receiving the Queen’s Medal with two clasps. He succeeded his father as 7th Baronet in 1914. Sir Frederick Des Voeux died on 4 June 1937 and was succeeded as 8th Baronet by his son. Sold with copied research.
