Kaisar-I-Hind, G.V.R., 2nd class, 2nd type, silver, unnamed, with brooch bar, in case of issue; Indian Volunteer Force Officers’ Decoration, G.V.R., reverse inscribed, ‘Capt. R. T. Fraser, S.V. Lt. Horse’, with brooch bar, in H. Jenkins & Sons, Birmingham case of issue; together with an Army Rifle Association, Volunteer Championship Shooting Medal (Sergt. R. T. Fraser, S.V.L.H. 1895-96, 55mm., silver, in (damaged) case of issue, nearly extremely fine (3) £320-360

Kaisar-i-Hind Gazette of India 3 June 1915. ‘... for Public Service in India’ ‘Robert Thomson Fraser, Esquire, V.D., Tea-Planter, Sylhet, Assam

Robert Thomson Fraser worked for many years at the Sathgaon Tea Estate at Motiganj, Sylhet, eventually becoming the Manager. Fraser joined the Surma Valley Light Horse in about 1887/88. As a Sergeant he won the Third Prize in a Rifle Match for Volunteers in October 1894, for which he was awarded a fine silver medal. He was granted a commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in the unit on 1 January 1900 and was promoted to Lieutenant on 13 April 1903 and Captain on 28 June 1910. For his long service in the Volunteers he was awarded the Volunteer Long Service Medal, this notified in I.A.O. 481 of September 1909, and the Indian Volunteer Forces Officers’ Decoration, notified in the Gazette of India of 14 December 1912. He retired in 1913 but returned to the service as a Captain in March 1914. Fraser served throughout the war, and on 1 October 1920 was promoted to Major; resigning his commission on 14 March 1922.
