John James Haslett was born in Tickmacrevan, Belfast, Co. Antrim, on 7 January 1897. He was educated at Antrim Boys School, Glenarm, after which he was employed as a Footman at Glenarm Castle, the seat of the Earl of Antrim. Before he enlisted in 1914 he was described as a Missionary Student. He enlisted into the 8th Battalion Border Regiment at Brampton on 9 September 1914. On 19 December 1914 he was transferred to the 25th Divisional Cyclist Corps and served in France, 25 September 1915-11 March 1917. On 26 September 1917 he was appointed a Temporary 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Berkshire Regiment and on 29 May 1918 was transferred to the Royal Air Force with that rank. He was transferred to the Unemployed List R.A.F. on 16 April 1919. After the war he went into commerce in India. There he joined the Punjab Rifles. He was awarded the Efficiency Medal (India), this notified in the I.A.O. 530 of June 1939. Sold with copied research.
