Canada, King’s College, New Brunswick (Inst. 1829), Douglas Medal, a silver award, unsigned, frontal elevation of the college, sunburst at right, rev. be always first in Greek within wreath, un-named, 42mm. About extremely fine and attractively toned, rare (£60-80)

King’s College, Fredericton, now the University of New Brunswick, has its origins as the Provincial Academy of Arts and Sciences, established in 1785. It was given a royal charter on 1 January 1829 and was reconstituted with its present-day title in 1859. The medal is named for Sir Howard Douglas, 3rd Bt of Carr (1779-1861), Lieutenant-Governor of New Brunswick, who was the prime mover in securing the royal charter.
