Richard Buckworth, 10st 7lbs, from Cockley Cley, Swaffham, Norfolk, at Eton 1884-8. He placed third in the final of Lower Boy Sculling, 29 June 1885, and was a lower boat choice in 1886. In 1887 he was in Smith’s winning team in Trial Eights, 14 March, unplaced in the second semi-final of School Pulling on 15 July but was again part of Smith’s victorious crew in the Upper Eights, 28 July, when they scored an easy victory over a course from Victoria to Albert Bridge (medal). In 1888 he came third in the second semi-final of the School Pulling on 24 July and was in Lord Ampthill’s winning team in the Upper Eights, 2 August, over the Sandbank to Brocas course, the last time the Upper Eights race was rowed. After Eton he went to Trinity College, Cambridge, then removed to Clewer, Windsor. Further details are sold with the lot
