20th Century, Hunters’ Improvement & National Light Horse Breeding Society, a gold medal by Johnson Matthey for Frank Hyams Ltd, horse trotting right, rev. hunter riding to left with hounds, date engraved above (1923), hallmarked Birmingham 1922, 35mm, 9ct, 24.27g; together with other medals of the Society, in silver (2, with engraved dates 1921 and 1923), bronze (2), all 45mm [5]. Very fine and better; four in named cases of issue [one broken] (£120-150)

The medals were won by Major Henry Denison Denison-Pender, DSO, OBE, MC (1884-1967), of Hook, Hampshire, who rode with the East Berkshire to win the 1921 and 1923 medals and with the Yeovil to win a medal in 1947. The recipient, who was educated at Eton and served with distinction in the Royal Scots Greys in World War I, being mentioned in despatches four times, became high sheriff of Dorset and chairman of Sturminster Rural District Council
