Kings of Macedon, Kings of Macedon, Alexander III, posthumous Tetradrachm, c. 205/4, Aspendos, head of Herakles right, wearing lion-skin head-dress countermarked with a Seleucid anchor, rev. Zeus seated left, holding eagle and sceptre, date in field, 16.26g/12h (Price 2888; cf. SNG Spaer 1235-9). Obverse very fine, reverse about fine (£100-150)

This issue of Aspendos was dated by Price from c. 212 to 181 BC. W. Metcalf, in “A New Hoard of Posthumous Alexandera,” SNR 73, 1994, pp.45-53, has dated the anchor countermarks, applied as a Seleukid symbol, to the period of Antiochos IV (175-165/4)
