A Great War M.M. awarded to Lance-Corporal J. Shand, Gordon Highlanders, killed in action, 29 July 1918

James Shand was born in Aberdeen and enlisted at New Pitsligo, Aberdeenshire. Serving with the 5th Battalion Gordon Highlanders he was awarded the Military Medal for bravery. He was killed in action, France/Flanders, on 29 July 1918, aged 21 years. Having no known grave, his name is commemorated on the Soissons Memorial. He was the son of Andrew Philip and Jane Shand of 9 School Street, New Pitsligo.
