Edmund Noel McCartan-Mooney, who was born in January 1918, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Irish Fusiliers in January 1938, and served in the 1st Battalion out in Palestine prior to the outbreak of hostilities. He subsequently witnessed active service in the Middle East and Italy, holding the ranks of Acting & Temporary Major in the period June-September 1943, but transferred to the Royal Army Service Corps as a substantive Captain in January 1946. McCartan-Mooney remained similarly employed until retiring in the late 1950s, having gained advancement to substantive Major in January 1951; also see Lot 1099 for further family Honours & Awards.
