David Bailey was born in Walpole St. Andrews, Wisbech, Cambridge and enlisted at King’s Lynn, Norfolk. Serving with the 1/4th Battalion Norfolk Regiment he was killed in action on 2 November 1917 during the Third Battle of Gaza. In the battle the battalion suffered 2 officers and 23 other ranks killed and 3 officers and 102 other ranks wounded. Having no known grave, Bailey’s name is recorded on the Jerusalem Memorial; his name also appears on the Walpole St. Peter Village Hall War Memorial.
