Three: Commissioned Boatman W. A. Andrews, Coast Guard, late Royal Navy

William Arthur Andrews was born in the parish of St. Paul’s, Bristol in December 1858 and entered the Royal Navy as a Boy 2nd Class in April 1875. An Able Seaman by the time of his service in H.M.S. Penelope (June 1882 to January 1884), he gained advancement to Leading Seaman prior to transferring to the Coast Guard as a Boatman in August 1887. Awarded his L.S. & G.C. Medal in June 1892, he was pensioned ashore as a Commissioned Boatman in May 1897, but went on to serve on the strength of the Royal Fleet Reserve from August 1902 to April 1909. Andrews died at Illogan, Cornwall in August 1921; sold with a file of research, including copied service record and birth & death certificates.
