William Herbert Douglas served in the ranks before being commissioned in June 1945 as a 2nd Lieutenant and War Substantive Lieutenant in the R.A.E.C. He was appointed a Temporary Captain in September 1945. He was promoted to Captain (Short Service Commission) in September 1947 and was appointed Acting Major in July 1953 and Temporary Major in April 1958. Douglas completed his service on 30 September 1959 and retired with the honorary rank of Captain.
