Seven: Lieutenant-Commander E. G. Wakefield-Gush, Malayan Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve

1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star, clasp, France and Germany; Pacific Star; Italy Star; Defence and War Medals, mounted as worn; Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve Decoration, E.II.R., reverse inscribed, ‘Lt. Cdr. E. G. Wakefield-Gush, M.R.N.V.R., 12-10-54’, with ‘E.II.R.’ Second Award clasp, in case of issue, good very fine and better (7) £220-260

E. G. Wakefield-Gush was gazetted into the Straits Settlements R.N.V.R. (later in the war it became the ‘Malayan R.N.V.R.’) on 15 October 1939 and was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 November 1940. He served with the unit during the Japanese invasion of Malaya and Singapore and was possibly amongst those key R.N.V.R. personnel ordered to be evacuated on 13 February 1942. He served from June 1944 at Haithi - Royal Naval H.Q. SEAC, and in 1945 was on the minesweeper Recruit.

On 22 February 1945, the
Recruit, in company with the minesweepers, Invade and Pincher, sank the German submarine U-300 (Lt. Hein), off Gibraltar.

Duke of York; a copy of a report written by Lieutenant Wakefield-Gush on the information gathered from the prisoners of U-300; testimonial from Captain F. E. W. Lammert, Malayan R.N.V.R., dated 16 February 1960, providing brief details of the recipient’s career; M.O.D. notification of the award of a clasp to the R.N.V.R. Decoration, 1 December 1965; and forwarding slip for the same, dated 6 December 1966.
