John William Boughton was born in Fulham. A Joiner by occupation and a member of the 4th Battalion Middlesex Rifle Volunteers, he enlisted into the Imperial Yeomanry on 24 January 1900. With them he served as Squadron Sergeant-Major in South Africa, February 1900-June 1901. He was discharged on 9 August 1901 on the termination of his period of engagement. Boughton was awarded the Imperial Yeomanry L.S. & G.C., notified in Army Order 24 of February 1906, while serving as a Corporal in the 2nd County of London (Westminster Dragoons) Imperial Yeomanry. He later transferred to the 13th (County of London) Battalion, London Regiment (Kensington). As a Serjeant with that battalion, he entered the France/Flanders theatre of war on 3 November 1914 and was wounded. Boughton was granted a commission as Temporary Lieutenant in the A.S.C. on 26 April 1915 and was advanced to Temporary Captain in September 1916. He was awarded the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal through Army Order 369 of August 1920. Sold with copied research.
