Godfrey Maxwell Morris was born on 14 February 1866, and first commissioned into the South Lancashire Regiment on 14 September 1887; Lieutenant and appointed to Madras Staff Corps, February 1889; Wing Commander, 2nd Madras Infantry, December 1889; Wing Commander, 22nd Madras Infantry, June 1892; Wing Commander, 20th Madras Infantry, July 1897; Double Company Commander, April 1898; Captain, September 1898; Double Company Commander, 77th Moplah Rifles, December 1902; Major, September 1905; Double Company Commander, 7th Gurkhas, September 1907; Lieutenant-Colonel, September 1913; Commandant, 2/8th Gurkhas, March 1914. He died of wounds received in France on 26 September 1915, and is buried in Pont-du-Hem Military Cemetery, La Gorgue, France.
