4 officers and 41 other ranks of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards served in the Guards Camel Regiment on the Nile, of whom 3 officers and 37 other ranks fought at Abu Klea.

William Slack was born at Chesterfield, Derby, and enlisted for the 31st Brigade of Infantry at Great Yarmouth on 17 June 1880, being transferred to 1/Grenadier Guards the following October. He served in Egypt from September 1884 to July 1885, and was discharged on 16 June 1892. Sold with copy discharge papers.
