D.C.M. London Gazette 18 February 1919. ‘During the operations at Niergnies, on 8th October 1918. Under very heavy machine-gun fire, he advanced his men and occupied a gap on the right of the company front. Later in the day, controlling his men in a splendid manner, he drove off an enemy counter-attack about 150 strong. It was entirely due to his example of fearlessness that the advance was made with so few casualties, and that the position was afterwards held’.
