Amers transferred from the Royal Engineers (T.A.) to the Royal Artillery (T.A.) in the rank of Captain in October 1940 and was awarded his Efficiency Decoration as an Honorary Major in 1946 (London Gazette 18 June of that year refers). He then relinquished his commission on transferring to another commission in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve in July 1951 (London Gazette 20 May 1952 refers).
